Cross-Age Physical Education Tutoring Program
Grades 10-12
Graduation Credit: Elective
Prerequisite: P.E. 9 and Screening process
All children need basic physical activity skills (running, batting,
throwing, catching) and who better to teach them
than you? If you ever wanted to be a coach or physical education
teacher AND you like children, here is your
opportunity to "test" your creativity, skills, and patience.
Students in this class will actually teach primary-age
children physical education skills at local elementary schools.
Students must be able to furnish their own
transportation.
We have a hospitality class:
Restaurant Careers
Grades 10-12
Graduation Credit: Elective
Prerequisite: None
Do you dream of becoming a famous chef? This class will prepare
you to enter the exciting field of food service
and hospitality, one of the fastest growing industries in California
today. You will be a part of the staff at The
Golden Eagle Cafe, Del Oro's own "upscale" on-campus restaurant.
You will actually take part in planning the
menus, preparing the food and serving the guests. You will
also spend time in a local restaurant completing a
"job shadow" component. This class is the perfect way to gain
"on the job" experience and develop skills that
will open the door to an exciting career option for you. A materials
upgrade fee of $20.00 is required for this
class.
We have a sports medicine class:
Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries
Grades 10 - 12
Graduation Credit: Elective
Prerequisite: None
This course is designed for students interested in the field of sports
medicine and specifically, athletic
training/physical therapy. Course content includes: an introduction
to the profession of athletic training, roles or
duties of an athletic trainer (prevention, recognition/evaluation,
treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries,
record keeping and training room upkeep), basic anatomy and physiology,
mechanics and structures involved in
common athletic injuries and protective taping procedures for common
athletic injuries. This course does not
satisfy P.E. requirements.
Many students take the ROP Sports Medicine class after Care and Prevention.
This ROP class is taught during
first block at Placer High School. It is an advanced course for students
who are interested in learning how to
care for sports injuries and rehab.
Internship Opportunities:
Grades 9 - 12
Graduation Credit: Elective
Prerequisite: None
If you would like to explore a career in-depth while you are at Del
Oro, you might want to consider doing an
internship. An internship is usually 150 hours long. You
work at a business site, learning skills related to a
career you are curious about. You must first write a resume and
learn pre-employment skills. (You do this either
through your Frosh Tech class or through the Personal Development class.)
Before the internship begins you,
the site-supervisor, and a school official will sign a contract that
covers expectations and responsibilities. When
the internship is over, your site supervisor will evaluate your work
and your learning experience, and you will
evaluate the experience as well as write a one page paper about the
experience. You will receive 10 credits for
the 150-hour internship. It will be listed on your transcript with
a pass/fail grade.
ROP:
Grades 11 - 12
Graduation Credit: Elective
Prerequisite: None
ROP is another way to explore careers. ROP classes are not held
at Del Oro at this time. Most of the classes
are either held at Lincoln High School, Placer High School, Rocklin
High School, or the ROP Center in
Auburn. The classes are usually two blocks long, for two terms.
Students can earn a certificate upon
completion of the course. For a list of ROP classes that are
available, check out their webpage at 49er ROP.
